Michael Jackson has ‘made $1bn’ since his death
Michael Jackson’s estate has made more than $1bn (£677m) since his death a year ago, according to estimates by trade paper Billboard.
The magazine says Jackson’s album sales have generated about $383m (£259m), while revenue from the film This Is It has hit nearly $400m (£271m). Profits from publishing rights, licensing and touring are also included in the total.
A new recording contract is estimated to have made $31m (£21m) so far.
The Sony Music Entertainment deal will see 10 albums of the late singer’s music released over the next seven years, including one of previously unreleased material.
The estate is guaranteed between $200m (£135m) and $250m (£169.5m) for the deal but Billboard believes approximately $31m (£21m) of this will have been paid in the last 12 months.
Publishing profits
Despite the This Is It tour never getting off the ground, revenue from tickets retained by fans as souvenirs and not refunded brought in about $6.5m (£4.4m), with merchandise raking in $5m (£3.4m), although concert promoter AEG has a cut of these profits.
Jackson’s music publishing company, Mijac, currently has a value of around $150m (£102m), according to Billboard.
The magazine said Mijac could have generated as much as $50m (£33.9m) in the last year.
Jackson’s estate also owns half of music publishing company, Sony/ATV.
Barry Massarsky of Massarsky Consulting estimated that Jackson’s share of Sony/ATV’s revenue is $80m (£54.3m) a year.
Other profits have come from DVD sales and rentals, downloads, royalties and ringtones.

Michael Jackson’s Brother Randy Jackson Hospitalized With Chest Pains
Randy Jackson, 48, was immediately taken to Huntington Memorial in Pasadena, California, after he began experience chest pains earlier today. He was working on arrangements for a service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park to mark the first anniversary of the pop star’s death on June 25.
A Jackson family friend tells Mail Online: ‘It appears Randy has had a mild heart attack, but he is okay. ‘He was joking around with his father and he is feeling pretty good all things considered. ‘He’s been under a tremendous amount of stress lately but Randy’s a fighter. He’ll pull through.’
It is yet another blow to the Jackson family, who were left bitterly disappointed yesterday when Dr Conrad Murray was given permission to continue practicing medicine in California while he awaits trial over Michael’s death.
Randy, who was not part of the Jackson Five, joined father Joe, mother Katherine, sister LaToya and brother Jermaine at the hearing in a Los Angeles court house.

Joe Jackson Blames Wife Katherine For Michael Jackson’s Death
We know Michael Jackson’s death was tragic and all, but it’s kind of sleazy how his crazy father Joe seems bent on blaming/suing everyone on the planet for it. It’s like he wants to sponge off of his son for attention and/or money, even after the music icon passed away. We’d feel bad implying that if it weren’t obvious.
In any case, Joe’s latest beef – he’s already sued Dr. Conrad Murray and blamed Katherine Jackson, his own wife, for Michael’s untimely demise – is with AEG. Murray requested lifesaving equipment and back-up help for Michael from his London concert promoter, Joe claims, but the company never came through.
Joe Jackson is gunning for AEG by filing complaints with the California Medical Board and another agency, alleging that the concert promoter abused his son….Source
